Same here. I don't know how I'm gonna make it to 2010....waiting..... :dizzy:. But I'm really stoked for it, because two friends and I are going to see it at an imax screen, after watching all three LotR movies in a row there. It'll be an all-day marathon, and my first imax experience, so I'm exhilarated!!!

I just watched FotR last night and realized just how much I love that movie. I hadnt really paid much attention to it before but you can really see how much time and effort went into making that movie...all of them really. I didnt seem rushed or anything. I really hope that they do the same with the Hobbit.

I am anxious to see what is going to happen in the new year, seeing as they HAVE to start production in 09, to make the 2011 release date. I hope we will get some very interesting news, as well as some (gasp!) controversial stuff- like changing certain points that fans are certain of (balrog's wings, anyone?). That only makes the anticipation more fun, in my opinion.

*shocker* Can you believe it's been 7 years since FotR came out?!? 6 since TTT? 5 since RotK? Amazing. Simply Amazing. Of course, we can only expect The Hobbit's CGI effects to be better, if WETA's work on Prince Caspian is any indication.

Yes, me too, but at least all three of the original writers of the movies (PJ, Phillipa B and Fran Walsh) are going to write the scripts.

I think we're coming up on about a year since finding out GDT is the director....I hope we get some meaningful tibit like casting soon. I'm not really all that good at waiting for spoilers, and I'm starting to get a *wee* impatient.

Right now, G. Del Toro is planning on directing, with the original writing team (P. Jackson, P. Boyen, F. Walsh) writing. There has not been a set date yet for the movie to come out- I wouldn't plan on seeing one until about six months after production starts. At the moment, we are not even in that stage. They are certainly taking their time, I will agree... But, in the famous words of Gollum, "Patience, Patience my love."

Thanks, I've been looking all over the place and can't find anything.
At this point I don't trust much info anyway, so I won't quote you Not that I don't trust you; I'm just not sure how accurate a lot of stuff is when it's first introduced online.

I believe filming will start in 2010 - the script hasn't been writing yet so pre-production might take this whole year - with principal photography following after it.

I read it somewhere though I'm not sure where ...

Ah, here we go... IDMB states that pre-production should begin either late this year or early next, and that filming should begin next year. Yay!

*sitting on hands* I just hope it comes out withing the next couple years, after all the run around concerning it. i suppose all this time in preproduction will (hopefully) give it an even better production process.

i think i'd prefer the Silmarillion be made into separate movies, Beren and Luthien, Turin, The Fall of the Noldor, etc. Not that miniseries aren't a good medium, but it seems some of these stories would make such excellent movies that would succeed in the big theaters.

Even though so much time passes concerning The Hobbit, I am for certain that it will be much worth the wait.

The news article says December 2011 so I'm hoping that's accurate. And that it doesn't get pushed back!

I think it's the best we could have hoped for, but I've had enough of waiting as well.
If I do end up at Otago Uni in Dunedin, I might end up being in NZ when they're filming

Oh and when I said 'news article' I meant one that was linked to from the homepage here.

Ive heard that not only are they going to be making the hobbit but afterwards they are going to make a movie connecting the hobbit and the lord of the rings. Based mostly on materials found in the appendices??? Does anyone know anything else about this rumor?

It is not a rumor at all, Bree. It's been known almost from the beginning that there will be two films...the Hobbit and the 'bridge' film. At least that's what everyone here has been calling the second film....we really aren't certain what it will contain and del Toro and PJ are being very closed mouth about it.

As a matter of fact, unlike the making of the LotR, we have heard very little about what del Toro and PJ are up to right now..nothing in quite a while.

Wow. That is interisting. I think that with the release of the children of hurin there is a very good chance that someone will want to make that into a movie one day. which would be awesome, much darker than any of the other book to movie adaptations though. There are so many stories in the silmarillion that would make great visual adaptations. One story that I would love to see fleshed out on screen is the downfall of numenor.I think that would be awesome. Also it is a very good way of explaining alot of things in the lord of the rings trilogy and in my opinion just a fantastic way to link the ages together.

Bah! *mutters something about nasty second film*

I really wish they wouldn't do that.

But anyways, like Bereth said, they haven't said anything here recently. What's going on? It just seems kinda weird how silent this is being. :/

I don't know what fillers they are going to use to make two full movies. Thats if they make each one say, two hours long. I think that with the length of the hobbit, it would just be one movie at about two to three hours long. It would be nice if they could fit Tom B. in it, since he was cut out of lotr. movies. To me i thought he was an important part of lotr.

olion, and to everyone reading this, it has actually been confirmed by Peter Jackson that they won't do a bridge film as the second movie, but rather span the whole hobbit onto two movies and add more stuff instead of craming the story in one movie and trying to 'invent' for the second... to me it sounds like a better idea

i agree with you Ilandir, this idea sounds much better than the fill in second film... that just seemed wrong to me.

anyways, i really hope this does turn out.

aaarrrghhhh!!!can't wait any longer!!!I want the hobbit!!! hahaha

Well, I'm not sure what I prefer them doing. It just seems to me that if The Return Of The King can be made into one movie then I'm not sure I see the need for two movies for The Hobbit... Don't take me wrong now, the more LoTR-related movies, the better. I'm just afraid they'll make things up to manage to fill both movies...
