Sometimes I think I have no life outside of CoE...

Welcome everyone! And Merry Christmas! (and a Pippin New Year...)

So I thought i'd take the time to introduce myself, as I was suggested to. I have to say i'm very shy and don't exactly know what to say. I guess i'll start off by saying i'm of the female variety. Uh, i'm 18 and finishing my last year of high school. Um, lets see, my interest in fantasy worlds and fictional stories came about at a very young age. My mother always tapestries and puzzles of unicorns, dragons, and wizards all about the house. We'd work on a huge 1000 piece fantasy puzzles together and that's how we spent time together, for the most part. She would also read me harry potter as a bed time story and that also dragged me into the world of fantasy. I'm not exactly quite sure when I was first introduced to LOTR but, I knew I was shown the movies at a young age and absolutely fell in love with Elves. I would actually play in the forest across my house and pretend I was an elf. I have to admit, sadly, that I've never be given the chance to read the books. I wish I could, for reading is one of my greatest hobbies but, I've never owned or known anyone who owns the books. I have made it a goal of mine to read all of the LOTR books plus The Hobbit for 2014 ends, is sort of my new years resolution. What actually brought me here was my interest in the language aspect of the Tolkien universe. I love languages and thought what better a language to learn than that of an elven language? Um ,I suppose a few of my interest would be a good idea, right? I like writing, drawing, reading and, playing video games. I used to be really active and loved exercise but, recent events have basically inhibited me from doing so for quite some time. I guess part of the reason why I've decided to learn a new language. It would allow me to stay productive while i'm basically house ridden.

Anyways... I know that was quite a lot of reading... So, i'll end it off here by saying hello to everyone(:

I'm fascinated to have found this site! I really want to learn Sindarin! I'm in love with Middle Earth! I'm Joshua. I live in Colombia (a beautiful country contrary to the many stereotypes we might have) and I study bilingual education.

Time for an introduction, I have heard? So... One might wonder why I am here or not... Fact is I haven't read the books, haven't seen the LotR movies, and I'm not usually that much into fantasy. So what am I doing here right? I saw Desolation of Smaug a week ago, and fell in love with Tolkien's world. It wasn't long before i saw An unexpected journey and seriously, I loved it! So right now I'm planning to watch the three other movies in one take. But I registered at first to learn Elvish (I still don't know which one between Quenya and Sindarin but anyway)
So that's about it I guess. I should just add that I'm 15 and I'm in HIgh School in Switzerland

Thank you very much for the warm welcome, guys! And welcome to the other newbies!

Sorry I've been MIA lately - Xmas and all.

MirielOfGisborne, we don’t have that many members from Romania, but we surely have some! My partner for instance, who I even met on here. She herself is a linguist, talk about coincidence! I dragged her off to another part of Europe though, couldn’t leave her so far away .
I think our fan-fiction section is still very much alive, albeit not as it used to be. But feel free to contribute your own writings, I’m sure there are many other members interested in literature and discussing about it. Don’t forget to check out the creations forum, you might find kindred spirits there.

Well, that is a happy coincidence, gondolinian! It is a smaller world than we think it is, I suppose.

I will certainly check out the creations forum. Hopefully, I'll find a few kindred spirits there.

Hello everyone.

I'm Erumollien, I joined this site as I too obsess over Tolkien's Legendarium. I find his creation so immense and intriguing and I'm sure many of my peers on this site feel the same. I'v been looking around and feel right at home (Good job Admins) .

I'm 21, at university and am from the UK. I can see myself spending much of my free time on this site. I'd also like to wish everyone a verry merry christmas and a happy new year

Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself after having lurked here for the past few days.

I saw The Lord of the Rings movies maybe once when I was a little kid and didn't remember much about them, apart from the fact that Legolas was very pretty. However, about a week ago I somehow ended up being dragged to the cinema to watch The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with my family; I figured at least I'd get to see more of Legolas' pretty face.
So there I was, when...
"What the *beep* have they done to his eye-colour!?"
"I'm sure his face didn't look like that before!"
"Fishtail braids!? FISHTAIL BRAIDS!?!? HE'S NOT A WHITE GIRL ON INSTAGRAM!"
And that's how I ended up rewatching all of the films to make up for how underwhelmed The Desolation of Smaug had left me.

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but now I want to own all of the books and am in the process of learning Elvish and making my own cloak and bow and arrow. Whoops.

Erumollien, I completely share your view of Tolkien's work. I have immense respect for him and his creation.

So I wasn't the only one bummed out by that. Yeah, what did happen to Legolas's eyes? Not only did they change color without explanations, but it looked fake, too.

Hello
My real name is Matea but I like Amadea better xD I come from Croatia and am, currently, 20 years old. I came upon CoE while looking for good Tolkien languages sites and here I am. I want to learn one of the Elvish languages but I don't know which one to choose. Considering that my native belongs to Slavic languages group xD
Nice to see there are Croats here

Hi everyone I am Coleslaw. My real name is John but everyone calls me Slaw. I am a 21 year old computer science major and I am a big fan of everything fantasy and sci-fi. I found this site while trying to get help with the silmarillion (which I have managed get through once and I retained very little. Hopefully it will get easier) and have been exploring the site ever since. I have not read a whole lot of expanded universe things like the Histories of middle earth which is my next goal. I have read the trilogy many times and think Sam is the greatest literature character ever (followed closely by John Snow, Hari Seldon, and kvothe). I am an avid runner, board game player, and reader. I am also extremely interested in fan theories in LOTR and if anyone has any they would like to share or discuss feel free to send them to me. Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Nikki, 23, and from Alice Springs, Northern Territory, in Australia (we Northern Territorians are always the lowest represented, alas ).

I saw the first two movies and then read the books (I thought a friend had read them already, but she said she hadn't) and remember seeing RotK in the cinema with my dad.

I love dressing up in costume, and thought I would learn Sindarin and at least be able to speak some of it if I am ever asked down the street what I am doing (yes, you read right, I dress up in costume and wander all over town just on errands.)
Home is behind, the world ahead...

Hi! First off, I'll say that I love the Lord of the Rings (and the Hobbit) movies and that I am in the process of reading the books (I just finished The Fellowship of the Ring today). I'm fascinated by languages in general and Sindarin just sounds so cool to me, so I'm glad I found this site for help in learning it
My name is Rebecca, and according to the translator, Rivka is a good Elvish translation of that name...hence my username.

Hello and welcome to all! Sorry for the belated greetings, but I’ve been out on vacation for a while. But as you can see, we have a wonderful and friendly community to welcome you in.
So many newbies in so little days, that’s wonderful! I’m sure the new Hobbit movie had something to do with that .

You’re going to enjoy 2014 Caresr, if you plan on reading all the books. They’re wonderful, I hope you’ll really like them. No need to worry, many people on here are shy. The advantage of being online is that you can also be anonymous . Good luck with learning Elvish!

Hello Erwedraith. Good luck to you too with learning Elvish. Might I suggest you trim down your signature a bit? Our site rules allow only 3 lines as a signature, yours is quite a bit longer.

Welcome to you too Sechee. Enjoy your Elvish lessons and the LotR’s movies! Who knows, you might get drawn into reading the books after watching them.

We hope to see you around a lot Erumollien, our community grows every day and is very active so please keep visiting!

Ah, another Leggy-fan girl, right Blippety ? Enjoy your kindred spirits in the movies forum!

Nice to meet you too phannitar. I don’t recall seeing many members from Thailand. So you are very welcome indeed . Adds more cultural diversity to the site.

There are several other Croatians here, Amadea. So you might even be able to get a local studdy-buddy for Elvish, once you’ve chosen a language. Good luck with the lessons!

A fellow board-gamer, well met Coleslaw! Please feel free to participate in the discussions in the forums.

I love that Flying Elf, that you walk around dressed up through town . That’s really great and courageous, more people should dare to be so bold and follow their whims. And a new member from Australia… our site really has all nationalities, great!

Welcome Lady Levaenen. Many elf-fans in the forums, go meet up and enjoy .

Hi Rivka_of_Rivendell. The Elvish translator was correct, that’s the translation of Rebecca. You share your name and nickname with our almighty creator and owner of the site, Rivka! A privileged name .

A Merry belated Christmas to all and best wishes for the New Year! We’re thrilled to have all of you in our community.
It's a dangerous business, going out your door...
