Hello berryandlisa and welcome. Perhaps you can tell our members a little bit more about yourself? Just saying you're new doesn't add much.

Hello and welcome King_Hanaar. For more info on how to get to know our site, have a look at the Newbie Guide in the newbies forum. It should answer your basic needs.
For your avatar, I can't really help without more info. Where in the process does it go wrong? Did you follow the size requirements?

Hi HildifonsBank, and welcome sierra.mogk!

HildifonsBank: I'm starting to feel old, I remember you (at least your name ) from ages ago. Some things have changed indeed, but that's a part of life . What hasn't changed is our great community! Still plenty of people around, still a lot of fun going on in the forums. The chat room doesn't exist anymore in its old form. But you can chat with other members through the chat bar at the bottom of the screen. You can even create your own chatrooms there.
It's great to see some of our old members return...

Sierra, you've indeed come to the right place for Elvish lessons! Good luck and enjoy being a part of our community .

Total newbie on here, should be fun!
I'm Megan, from Ireland. I like movies, I watch many tv shows, and I love reading (currently re-reading A Song of Ice and Fire). Came here to learn Sindarin, and I've already been talking to a few people. Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming!

Hail and well met!

I joined CoE a couple of days ago and decided to walk the right path and start by introducing myself. I tend to talk a lot about the things I love, so I hope that you will bear with me. Will try to be as concise as possible.

I am female, will be 32 on December 30 this year, and I'm from Romania (don't know how many of us you get here).

I didn't read Tolkien as a child, as probably many people here have. I have to say that I discovered his work through Peter Jackson's LoTR movies. I was very impressed with the first installment of his trilogy, and I bought the books as soon as I could find them in a bookstore. I now have a gorgeous edition from Harper Collins of both LoTR and Hobbit, but my first copy of LoTR was a translation into Romanian. Good one, I must say, as it managed to draw me entirely and hopelessly into the wonderful world that Tolkien created. I read the books while vacationing with my family in the Romanian mountains, and that was a truly magical experience for me. To be in a landscape fairly similar to the world that I was reading about made it all the more immersive and I knew I was going to be a Tolkien fan for life. Plus, I think I love a lot of the things that Hobbits love, like things that grow, the comforts of home, a good book, some nice relaxing time out in the sun. And I'm very close to nature. I like to be outside, I love hiking, animals, trees. Middle Earth is a world that I can relate to and that I can understand.

My other hobbies/likes include my great passion - the English language - which I've been lucky to be able to make into a profession. I love reading, obviously, I love my pets (3 cats and a dog), cooking, gardening, but most of all, I love writing, creating new and beautiful things using language.

I discovered CoE while looking for sites that have Tolkien-inspired fan fiction, actually. I don't know yet how active that section is here, but I do like the fact that it has some stricter rules in that area than other sites. I hope that I will be able to contribute with something, in fact, if it is welcome. I would really love to talk with fellow writers and exchange suggestions and ideas.

I feel that I also have to offer a brief explanation of my user name. It's actually a pretty interesting story, which you probably won't believe. I took an immediate liking to the movie version of Thorin Oakenshield, and a while ago I had the impulse to write a fan fiction story about him and company. The story included an original character - an Elf female caretaker - that I needed to find a name for, and I needed an Elvish name, of course. I sort of wanted to make up my own name that would sound Elvish. I thought of the name 'Miriel' because it incorporates the first part of my family name and the suffix '-el' sounded Elvish to me. I didn't like it at first, so I went to an Elvish dictionary to see if I could find something better. Not little to my surprise, I found my 'invented' Elvish name in it and I could not believe my eyes. Honestly, I had not even read Silmarillion at that time and I had no idea that the name actually existed in Tolkien's writing. So I took it as a good sign that maybe I do belong in this world.
The 'Gisborne' bit is a reference to a character played by Richard Armitage prior to The Hobbit, Sir Guy of Gisborne in BBC's Robin Hood. This is actually my pen name and that's why I'm using it here as well. It's also my tumblr handle for the Armitage fangirl circle that I am in.

Goodness, this is not exactly concise. Sorry about that.

Very happy to meet everyone!

Welcome MirielOfGisborne! Yes, fan fiction is welcome! I haven't actually read to much of it myself, but I do enjoy reading some stories from time to time. Glad you could join us, and I hope you have an awesome time here!

Everybody's being so nice and welcoming, thought I should open up a bit and make a proper introduction, right?

My name is Marco Antônio, I'm 22 and am from Brazil.

I'm currently an Animation student, just one more semester to graduate!

I speak Portuguese and English and I'm learning French and Japanese (very basic level in this one). I can also write Portuguese in Tengwar using the Portuguese Tengwar writing system, guess I should add this since this is one of the only places where someone might care.

My hobbies vary from gaming, watching movies/series/cartoons/anime, reading books/manga and listen to music to actually draw, animate, write and compose myself. I'm no master in any of these fields, but I love to experiment, so I'm able to at least do something in every one of them.

On Tolkien, I first watched the Fellowship back when it came out in VHS, two tapes! This got me interested on the story and by 10 years old I was already reading the trilogy. I read it again with 18 years and then I devoured The Hobbit and The Silmarillion, which is my favorite book for its richness on worldbuilding, my favorite aspect in any work of fiction.
I love how Sindarin sounds and I also love how the Finnish language sounds. A couple of years ago I found out Tolkien loved it as well and used Finnish as inspiration, I wish I can learn Finnish someday.

I'll list here some quick interests, if you happen to be interested.

Music: Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Vocaloid. But I listen every kind of music if it's well-made. From pop and rock to korean rap and traditional indian music.

Movies: Amélie, Kill Bill, Shaun of the Dead

Animation: Spirited Away, Aristocats, Samurai Jack

Books: Tolkien, HP Lovecraft and Isaac Asimov in general, don't make me choose just one book!

And if you'd like to see my drawings, be sure to check my deviantART.Image

Hello and welcome MirielOfGisborne and Marcotonio! Those were two lengthy introductions, just how we like them .

MirielOfGisborne, we don’t have that many members from Romania, but we surely have some! My partner for instance, who I even met on here. She herself is a linguist, talk about coincidence! I dragged her off to another part of Europe though, couldn’t leave her so far away .
I think our fan-fiction section is still very much alive, albeit not as it used to be. But feel free to contribute your own writings, I’m sure there are many other members interested in literature and discussing about it. Don’t forget to check out the creations forum, you might find kindred spirits there.

Marcotonio, I had no idea they actually released the FotR on VHS… has it been that long? Growing old goes fast nowadays it seems .
I’m sorry, but I had to delete the link to your deviantART page. We only allow links in posts if there is an absolute need for the topic on hand, or in signatures. So feel free to add it there, that way it will show up in every post you make. But our site rules don’t allow it otherwise. This helps against people abusing our forums for advertising (they don’t usually take the time for a proper profile and signature). Hope you understand! Might be a good idea to check out our site rules.

We’re very glad to have both of you on board. Enjoy your membership and have fun! Hope to see you around often .

Hi!!!! I'm a newbie that found this site when I was looking for something to translate Sindarin, and BAM! Best lotr fan website EVER!!!

Call me by my Elvish first name- Linwe! (Originally with 2 dots above the e)

I'm 13 years of age or older (jk lol I'm in my teens)

Female

I live in Illinois, but to the rest of the world it is also known as one of the random states somewhere in the middle of America

I found CoE when I was looking for a Sindarin dictionary/translator

When I'm not obsessing over lotr, I read, write, draw and play tje viola (NOT the violin!)

I have read all of the books and seen all the movies (except the animated ones. I've seen the screenshots, and... 0_0)

I'm not really new here, because I've been here before, but I've returned here after an absence of about a year and a half, so I figured I'd re-introduce myself.

I'm Vendelle, I live and work in the Netherlands (I'm a speech therapist and vocal coach) and my hobbies include singing, playing the piano, reading (mostly fantasy books) and watching movies. I intend to stick around this time, so hopefully you'll see more of me in the coming months.

Suilad mellyn!

I am a college student who is obsessed with everything Tolkein, especially his languages. I came here originally to learn Sindarin, but am staying for all the awesome extra features around here. I'm also interested in doing some RP.

Some of my hobbies include playing the piano, reading, calligraphy, and watching films. I hope to see more of you all in the next few months!
