Hello Phantom & Juan!
Welcome to CoE, I'm new too, so if you want to talk to someone, I'll be here.

Hello and welcome Juan and Phantom.

No worries Juan, English isn't the native tongue for many of our members, and yours is good enough .
Talking about languages: this site is a strictly English speaking site. So unless it is absolutely, 100% necessary for the discussion on hand to use another language (like Elvish in the Elvish forums), only English is allowed. This is to prevent other members from not being able to understand. In those rare cases when it is allowed to use another language, a translation must be provided. So Phantom and JoSeDu, no more Spanish or other languages please! You are of course free to converse in whatever language you want through PM's.

Hello Gilrin, welcome. Perhaps you can tell our members a little bit more about yourself? Just saying 'hello' is a bit pointless . Our members can only get to know you better if you tell them about your likes/dislikes and what kind of person you are. If you need some inspiration, you can look at the first post of this thread.

I prefer that people get to know me through conversation telling people all about me right off the bat kind of defeats the purpose of talking to people lol

I guess I'll just cutnpaste the stuff I wrote in the bio block of my account:

First heard, more likely read the term "Lord of the Rings" in the 1970s, without any idea about content.

Saw the Ralph Bakshi movie (which I now have on DVD) in 1983, read the German translation of LotR shortly after. Bought LotR original in 1985 latest, Hobbit, Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales and Book of Lost Tales vols 1 and 2 shortly thereafter. The other ten books of the HoME followed. Books by, about and in honor of JRRT now number 50+, last acquisitions were Scull / Hammond “JRR Tolkien Companion and Guide” and “LotR – a Reader’s Companion”.

Lived in the US 1966-1975 with my parents, Germany since then.

Found the link to the CoE through The Tolkien Society, of which I have just very recently become a member.

DVD-wise, I have the cinema and extended versions of LotR 1-3 and Hobbit 1.
Just loved Radagast and his Rhosgobel Rabbits in the movie, but am grumping about some "factual errors" by Peter Jackson - par for the course.
Had to see "Fellowship" at the movie theater twice within two days in December 2001, because the first time I almost had smoke coming out of my ears from trying to remember (hopeless!) the mental list of “that’s-not-how-it-was-in-the-book”. Only after second viewing was I able to give an account about “what-was-in-the-movie”.

Hello and welcome Gandolorin. Now that's a lengthy introduction, just how we like it ! Clearly you're an experienced Tolkienite, so I'm sure you'll fit right in with our community. If you're interested, there's an active 'Fans over Forty' thread in the forums.
Enjoy your membership!

Welcome to the wibbly wobbly COE site Noctuarn. I'd recommend the LOTR films and that's from someone who refused to see them at first. Have fun and good luck with the languages, lots of helpful folks in that forum.

I refused to see the films, then ended up watching through a window as my family saw them... Welcome!
If anyone had happened to look out of a window on the east side of the palace, they might have noticed two figures in the darkness, dancing in a square bordered by living plants, out of time with the dancers inside but perfectly in time with each other.

Hello Noctuam, welcome to the Council of Elrond!
Now there's an interesting hobby: learning . I don't see many people saying that too proudly . Any particular interests, or just random things, whathever you can pick up?

I can only tell you that the movies have changed my life . Whether or not you want to see them is up to you but to me and many others, they mean a whole lot. If you're willing, they're definitely worth your time (even the extended editions, which provide a lot more than the theatre versions).

Concerning the language workbooks: not sure what you mean by 'updated', but as you can see in that particular section, the books date from back in 2003 and 2006. Since Tolkien's Elvish isn't really a 'living language', there isn't much to update regularly. The grammar rules and vocabulary don't change that often . When you submit exercises they get revised as soon as possible, but that might take a few days, depending on the admin involved and the number of people doing the workbooks at that particular time.
I don't think there will be any workbooks anytime soon for the other languages. Several of those were not developed as much by Tolkien as Sindarin and Quenya. It's difficult to write a complete language course for Black Speech if there's hardly anything available . But perhaps you can make a suggestion to the language admins and mods, just have a look at the language forum!

Hello! My name is Maltheneth, and I'm a twenty four year old Animal Management student in England. I love (and worship) cats, and I enjoy a wide range of hobbies, ranging from drawing manga, to baking, to gardening, sewing, knitting, reading, and story writing!
It was my story writing that brought me here-I needed a language for my characters to use when casting spells, and Sindarin has such a beautiful flowing quality to it that I thought it would be perfect. I've since decided that learning to speak it properly would really help my understanding of it, as well as utterly confuse my classmates! =^.^=

I wish I could say it was a fan-fic, but I don't know the LoTR world well enough, unfortunately-I've seen the films and read the books, but it was several years ago now. >.< My work is all original, lol, and if anyone would like to read it, I'll happily send them the link through PM. =^.^=

Learning, mmm, mostly different cultures and ideas, I love random facts and spending a lot of time researching stuff that is completely worthless (elvish, language of flowers, codes, scientific research, I like compiling guides and cataloguing stuff).-what can I say? I'm a touch eccentric!

I am in general not a movie person so, its not because I actively don't want to see them, its just I have no particular interest in watching them, completely benign.

I just wanted to know if the practice sentences were added on to or if they were looked at because I don't think some of them make any sense in English....

Hello Pengwen13, welcome. Perhaps you can explicit a bit, why are you lost? If you need help finding your way on the site, than have a look at the 'newbie guide', one of the topped threads in this newbie forum. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any specific questions!

Noctuam, the exercises definitely get reviewed, so feel free to do as much as you want of the workbooks! In time you should get feedback from the admin responsible for that part of the site.
