Thank you wolfbladequeen and Lord Sauron for welcoming me in! I am enjoying my stay here already :目 !
Thank you so much, Mr. gondolinian, for the encouragements you gave me. The last time I tried to read them there were still too many vocabularies that distract me from appreciating what was between the lines. I tried the Harry Potter books but I think the LOTRs would take a lot more than that ˊ口ˋ !
I've started with Sindarin. I totally love the Elvish workbooks! They are sometimes difficult but I love the fact that it is actually possible for me to learn the language properly and accurately!

No need to call me 'Mr.' . I'm but a humble moderator . It's true that the Harry Potter books are a bit less difficult (they are written for a different age category), but the LotR books are doable as well. The storyline is not too hard to follow and they're not as abstract as some parts of the Silmarillion or as fragmented as the Unfinished Tales. Even if you don't understand all yet, they're very nice to read and definitely will help you learn even more English .
Enjoy learning Sindarin, if you need any help or want to talk to other people studying it, you should check out the Elvish forums!

Hello jessicalestrange, welcome to CoE. For any question about Elvish (not evlish ) you better check the Elvish forums (like the Quenya forum). This thread is for newbies to introduce themselves.
But as far as sounds are concerned, you can find more info on pronunciation both in the language section on our site and in Tolkien's books.

Post Hello from another newbie!
on: February 01, 2014 11:19
Well, I'm not new to the site in general terms, haha. I've been coming here for several years because the dictionaries are amazing! But membership on the site is new for me.

I always heard of Tolkien, but until i watched the films I didn't read the books. I love Tolkien's works now, and I love all the languages in his writings. Particularly the Elvish languages, it's true. I'm looking at both Quenya and Sindarin right now. Language always fascinates me, so I'm eager to work with both.

I am also working on a multi-chapter story, which I am currently creating names for, so I'll be posting for some help there in future.

It's nice to be here!

Hi, I signed up the site today just looking for something to do in my off time. Strangely enough I want to learn elvish so I found this site. I have read most of Tolkien's works but I now want to be able to say some of the names that I read. Learning elvish might not be a bad idea so hello everyone.

Hello, I am Arthiel and I just wanted to say hi, I have been a member for a while but I have been busy in real life and have not had much chance to get the drift of how things work. So if anyone would like to say hi or has any advice or chit-chat I would be happy to hear from you. Fair well.

Not much advice to give other than have fun. Real life has a tendency to do just that. I've been here irregularly for 10 years and I'm still not sure how things work.

Aiya! I'm Xiime-, as you can see, and I'm from Argentina. I'm learning Quenya with the Helge Fauskanger course, but, although I think I'm good at the theory, in the practice I'm kind of a disaster, so I need more practice xD And I saw that you have some Quenya things here, and I thought I could have a good time with the other 'students' while I improve my languages (And of course, all of the other Tolkienians!)

I play the piano, and a bit of some other instruments, and I love drawing (Elves mostly) (although few of my drawings worth a second look).
I love Tolkien, and I'm in the process of reading what I call "the edited books" (Such as the Unfinished Tales and History of Middle Earth). I think that Fëanor and Túrin are my favorite characters so far, and I have like a connection with the Noldor. I also really like some other not-as-known characters, such as Voronwë (the one that lead Tuor into Gondolin) and Tar-Aldarion, the mariner king of Númenor.

You may have noticed that I don't have a very good english, so feel free to tell me of any 'language mistake' (in english or quenya) so I can correct it
This is getting long, I think, so I'll finish here, haha.

Welcome to COE Xiime. Your English is very good. Some people get upset by being corrected so it's good to know you are willing to learn. It's Elves by the way, not elfs. Good luck learning Quenya.

Hello Mithrandir2112, Xiime- and MelyannaMellyrn, welcome to CoE!

Good luck with our Elvish lessons, all of you. There are many members (both old and new) that are studying the languages, so dive into our Elvish forums and chat away. Don't forget to check out the rest of the site and our forums though, we have some great content .

Xiime-, your English is very good indeed, no need to worry. Many of our members are non-native speakers, you're definitely not the only one . Besides, even the native speakers make mistakes . One word I'd like to correct, even though it's not even an official English word (I think), is Tolkienians. We geeks call ourselves Tolkienites . Tolkienian does exist, but it's not a word to describe people with. It means something like 'of - or pertaining to - JRR Tolkien or his writings'. Sounds very difficult, but it's quite easy if you look at an exemple: "that Tolkienite has written a very Tolkienian story", which could mean "that fan of Tolkien has written a story that is very much in the style of Tolkien's writings".

Ok, language rant over, enjoy your membership!

I am Hawkins lightningbolt,
This is my first time. I have chosen to learn the sindarin dialect. I can already write it fluently, translating from English, now I am trying to learn how to speak and read Elvish. I have memorized a few phrases and keep in practice by speaking to my horse Arwen Eveningstar only in elvish as much as I can.

Hi everyone,

I'm 15-year-old girl from Finland. I have always wanted to learn Elvish and know more about Tolkien's languages, especially about Quenya. I have already started to learn some Quenya and it seems quite easy for me, because Tolkien took inspiration from Finnish (same words and other similarities...). Not too easy though.

I'm already loving this site and I hope I get new friends from here. My English isn't the best, but I hope you understand what I'm saying. ~

By the way Qweragon, you have great English. Better than some Americans, actually. I'm not kidding.
