yeah, I'm in the Realm of Este, and, also, can see Lorien's threads.

I can't get into the member's art gallery. Every time I try, I just get an empty gallery page, if you know what I mean. :dizzy:

I had a little thing I could call problem today, and thought you should now. I received a PM from a member. It was dated 31 december 1969 and it was empty. I asked the person what did she try to send me and she said she didn't send anything...and when I looked again the PM was gone...and I'm completly sure I didn't delete it....

I have a question about something not working. I have spoken to another person and we tried to figure it out, but were not able to together.

I'm trying to add a site link to my sig, and when I click on it, it doesn't take me to there. I get a "page cannot be displayed" error. I know it is the right URL because I tried it a number of times other ways.

Was just wondering why I can't link to the site. The URL address is:

http://www.artconspiracy.com/artists/Ireth.htm

Does that URL not work here?

just a quick note, but the top navigation bar's *beginning with "My Account"* Elrond's Library Link seems to be broken... it points to books.php but the page doesn't come up... the links on the left hand sidebar all work though, and htey point to different pages instead.

(This is a post for several other members, not myself)

For some reason, two members on this site, Nyérëven and Atolkienhead, cannot seem to get into CoE for some reason and it's driving both of them nuts. Atolkienhead has done a ton of things with her firewall, disabled it, and so forth, but none of that seems to do any good.
I am able to send anything to both of them, so any help will greatly be appreciated by us all!!

Venora: Do they get a "Page Not Found" or "Timed Out" error, even though this site is up and running? Because, this is what has happened to me at times since August.

At first, I thought it was just my computer. But, I have the luxury of having three computers at my home that can be connected to the Internet; all through the same ADSL router. All are running the same firewall program, but with different licence each; two are running Win XP, one Win ME. Usually, I can get to CoE from one or two of those computers, although the rest don't seem to find this site. But, a couple of times, I haven't been able to connect here from any of them. For example, here's what I posted in another thread on September 26:
Our main computer decided yesterday that I don't need to get into CoE, and even the girls' comp failed me. At the moment, my laptop is the only one that agrees to cooperate; so, if I don't appear to the chat tonight, it's just because it has broken the contract too...

Also, one of our former Realm Leaders had to leave her post because CoE suddenly stopped downloading to her computer for weeks. I've heard of others having similar problems as well.

So, I think that in such cases, it can't be just the computer. There has to be something with the network and/or the server as well.

Does anybody have any idea of what it could be about?

This is a network problem. I have been trying to solve it for a while now. For those of you that run into this problem, please do the following when you are unable to connect at CoE (don't do it the next day, for example).

Please send me over email (rivka@councilofelrond.com) the following info:

1) The date and time (with your time zone), and where you are located in the world
2) The name of your Internet Service Provider
3) Your IP address (go here to find out how)
4) Run a traceroute from your computer to the server. This is very important, and can be a big help in solving the problem. You can read how to do that here. When you run the traceroute, you should be typing: tracert councilofelrond.com

Send ALL of the above to me over email -- please make your subject line something helpful, like "CoE connection problems". I will pass this onto our network/server admin, and hopefully he can track down the problem. I need a LOT of people who are not able to connect to do this to be able to solve the problem.

Please pass this onto anyone currently not able to connect.

Rivka I first want to let you know I emailed Atolkienhead with the post above to let her know what to do to try to figure out why she can't get on the site. I hope we figure it out soon as she is going bonkers not being able to get into CoE and our Realm .

Secondly I am having some trouble also. I am getting onto the site without any problems but I am not receiving my email notifications of postings such as in the realm and my PM's. I checked to see if they were being blocked by my spam filter, but they are not. So I am not sure what the problem is. Hope you can help as I like knowing what to look for when I come online

I need help!! Starting last Thursday I can no longer open CoE on my home computer. I have been through changing my firewall settings, turning off modems and rebooting everything and nothing has worked not even turning the firewall off entirely. I also have emptied my cache, history and temp Internet files.
Does anyone have a possible cause for this to be happening? Rivka thought network problems but I in my limited knowledge am not sure if that means a problem on my end or on CoE. I am really bummed not being able to access my favorite site!

I also have not been able to put any new graphics into my private journal. When I right click on the image I do not get the correct window. The save picture as window comes up instead of the properties window. I think something very strange is happening to my computer and I don't know how to fix it. If anyone has any ideas I would certainly appreciate your help.

Thanks
Atolkienhead

Update!!

When I cam home from work I was able to open CoE again Yipeeee! Four days with out CoE was putting me into a tailspin! I still can not put any new graphics in my private journal, so if anyone has any ideas how to remedy that problem I will be very appreciative!

Please read the post above by myself, and copy the instructions in it. If it happens again, then do what it says.

I can't fix the problem if people don't pass that info onto me, and it will keep on happening.

Do you still want me to run a trace even though the website is now opening again for me? I didn't have a chance to run the trace because by the time I received the info the site was opening for me again. I copied and saved all instructions so that if it happens again I can get you the info you require.
I am not very knowledgeable about this kind of thing and I know that can be annoying when you are trying to help. Sorry if that is the case.
I am still unable to put anything into my private journal and I have no idea if that is something on my end, CoE's end or both.
Thanks for any help you can give.

I'm not sure if this's been addressed, but there's a problem with the links to Hollywood.com in the Downloads section.

If you go to the Hollywood site manually it downloads just fine. But if you click the link, the browser window just stays the same forever...

Can anyone help me with my journal entries? All at once I can not add any new private journal pictures. I do birthday graphics for our realm and I store images to use in the greetings but I can no longer do that. In order to store images and use them you must be able to copy the url from the properties but I can no longer access the properties window when I right click my image. I get the window to to open link, open link in new window, save target as and print target as some of my options, but not the properties option. Can anyone help me fix my journal problem?

I hope I'm posting this in the right thread....When I go into some threads in Nessa, (I haven't seen this happening anywhere else) The bar that use to be below the sig (Edit, Delete, Profile, etc) has been jumping to the right side and making the threads out of whack.
I.E.--The post was where my avatar was, and the middle was blank and down the whole side there was a grey streak and it ended when it got to my posts where it had the Edit/Delete/Profile etc...buttons.

**Edit : I have turned your signature off here as NenyaGold is correct, something in it is making the forums very, very unhappy. You should try to figure out what the problem is, otherwise every time you post anywhere, it will continue to happen **

Elen, you have something in your signature that is making the page go wonky... You might want to remove everything and each part back one at a time until you find out what is causing it. Hope that helps.

When using Mozilla, when people put in links to pictures they've uploaded to their journals, I can't get the links to show me anything. The problem seems to be, at least for the pictures, that the "jpg" at the end of the url isn't a ".jpg" (no dot), so Mozilla isn't recognizing it as an image file- and none are any of the picture-viewing apps I try to ask my browser to launch. Maybe some nice person knows how to find the setting that will bend my browser to my will? Or is this just the lesson I learn, trying to escape the long reach of IE?

I'm getting a weird problem... When I click on a link to take me to another thread, a new window opens where I can see the thread, but I'm then logged out. Logging in twice seems like a waste of time, and even doing that just takes you back to the front page, not the thread itself. Doesn't help much if you can't remember the name of the new thread.

I'm using firefox as my main browser, and it hasn't caused any other trouble so far. Have others experienced this problem?

For the mods, please if you close one thread because there's a duplicate, could you consider bumping up the older thread to make it easier to find?

I've found that when this happens to me, it's often because the link goes to "councilofelrond.com", and not to www.councilofelrond.com. You might try just adding in the www part.

Regarding my post from 1/5- I have now upgraded to Firefox, but the situation hasn't changed. Here's the box I'm getting, for reference.

You have chosen to open
Username_picnamejpg
which is a: application/octet stream
from: http://councilofelrond.com/modules/Journal/tmp/

What should Firefox do with this file?
-Open with [Browse]
-Save to disk

Have you saved copies of messages you yourself have sent? They're not visible in your inbox, but count to the total amount as well. They are stored in the Sent Messages folder which you can access from the drop-down menu at the top of your PM page.

There is a dead link for "Elrond's Library" at the top of the page next to the "My Accoun"t link. The "Elrond's library" link links to a page called councilofelrond.com/books.php.

For me, the link works perfectly well; but, someone else complained the same thing some time ago. Which theme are you using - I understood that it may be a theme specific glitch?
