I am here simply because the elves of LOTR inspire me. I would like to learn Sindarin, Quenya, and Rohirric. I also love the recipes section. If I can't cook human food I might do better with elven food. (Which is working well enough actually.) Hannad, your welcome is very much appreciated. Galu, Mellon.

Hello and welcome Mirabella42!

If you want to chat with our community, it might make things easier if you tell our members a little bit more about yourself. No personal information of course, if you don't feel like it. But if you share your hobbies and interests, it makes it easier for others to know what kind of person they are talking to . Plus those things can be a great conversation-starter.

Name: Ninim-Snowdrop(flower)
Im 17 and a 1/2....yes im going there.
Really want to learn Sindarin! I made consent flash cards and already practice about 15 mins a day
Anyways, I really hope to practice talking in Sindarin over the phone once I get good enough.
Plus im really slow a languages. I tried Japanese for three yrs. Biggest failure ever.
So at first Im problably going to pester people over email about pronunciation and grammar and shiznit. Sorry if I seem really stupid and I bother you. Feel free to shoo me away.
So yah, Im sooooo happy I found this website. People should start speaking "dead" languages more often. OOOOOhhh and my fave character of LOTR is Pippin...I have a very similar personality.

Hello everybody,
I'm Gandalfgrijs. Maybe you had notice that the word "gandalf" is in that. That's right. It means Gandalf the grey in my language (Dutch), without the, because that is so hard to read.
It's always my usersname, what prove that I'm a lotr fan.
I'm recentelly nominate to Gamemaster in a rpg called Merp and I had to do some re-search, so I come to this site.
I think I gonna like it here!

Salutations to all! I am a 16 year old male living in the USA. I am studying many languages in order to become a polyglot, and I have been in love with LOTR since my father introduced me to the movies. I am currently torn between which elvish language to learn, so I would be grateful if you could help me decide.

Welcome to COE Nekoante I hope you enjoy yourself here. Have you read any of the books yet? Choosing which language to study is up to you really. Take a look at the Language lessons and forums, maybe talk to someone there. I understand Sindarin is the usual choice as it is the most developed of the two, so is easier to use.

Hello and welcome Gandalfgrijs and Nekoante.

I hope you've found the information you needed for your research for that rpg, Gandalfgrijs. Our encyclopedia tons of useful info, just waiting to be read.
Nekoante, you could try learning both . It's difficult to help you decide on one, I'd say see which appeals to you more based on the spoken parts in the movies and other resources.

Enjoy your memberships!

Hey guys! I've been on your amazing site before, and I LOVE it! I was referred to it again by a Tolkien scholar, who I've been conversing with about having a phrase translated to Sindarin. She said maybe someone here could help me

If anyone is very well versed in it, I'd be SO incredibly grateful for your assistance!

I'm having a ring made to commemorate coming through a really difficult, trying period of my life and really coming into my own, owning my power and, well, being who I was born to be. I'm going to have the ring engraved with the phrase "become who you were born to be" in Sindarin.

I don't want to risk trying to translate it myself and screw it up; I already purchsed the ring!

Hello JuliSnyderArt, welcome to CoE. For questions about Elvish and translations, you'd better post your question in the Sindarin forum. All talk concerning languages should be posted there . Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

Welcome to COE JuliSnyderArt. Hope you enjoy yourself. All you have to do is ask your question in the Sindarin forum like gondolinian suggests and someone there should be able to help you.

Hi I'm Kaela, I'm 16 and from the USA. I found CoE when I searched for a way to learn Quenya. My friend moved to Hawaii, and we decided to learn it a week before she moved, so now we plan to call each other every Wednesday and hopefully improve in the language until we can mainly just speak it. Some of my hobbies are Martial arts, ballroom dancing, and opera singing. I absolutely love the phantom of the opera, and some of my favorite bands include Guns 'n' Roses, Journey, and the Black Keys. Oh and I really like creating my own music on Garage band as well. I have read the books and seen the movies and I absolutely loved all the actors they picked for the roles, though I imagined Legolas with dark hair. And I don't think I have any questions about finding my way around. I look forward to exploring the site more.
