3.09. Flotsam & Jetsam
Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd in the extended edition of ‘The Two Towers’ How did it happen in the book? Gandalf and Théoden with his men have arrived in Isengard and they go to talk with Treebeard. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli stay behind with Merry and Pippin and they want to know what has happened…

Great article!!
I’m totally agree with the article. I would never understand why Frodo is weaker in the movie, while in the book he is stronger. Another thing that I also consider a big change, why Frodo is threating Sam with his sword? He never do that in the book. I think that scene must be erased…

creepy dude trick
I think Gandalf´s creepy dude trick, (as it´s called here) when he gets angry and creepy, could be derived from a scene in the book at the Council of Elrond when Gandalf says what is written at the One Ring in the black speech: “The change in the wizard´s voice was astounding. Suddenly it became…

hobbits/ apple
I think although the scene with Pippin asking for a 2nd breakfast is not in the book, it portrays Hobbits very good! and the apple that is thrown in the book by Sam has apparently made its way into the film, when strider throws some at Merry and Pip.

Frodo Baggins
Who is Frodo in the movie? Knowing that he has to finish the task alone Frodo has departed from the Fellowship with Sam and they try to find their own way to Mordor with Gollum as their guide. At the Black Gate Frodo takes Gollum’s advice to follow him to some other, secret road to…

Sam’s Sword
Figwit mentions that Sam was fighting with his Barrow-Sword and not a frying pan in the book. At the start of the battle sequence, Sam does have a sword and uses it with some skill. I also noted he was wielding it with his right hand. Later when he is laying about with the frying…

Arwen Undómiel
Kim Kincaid – Bestowal of the Evenstar (detail) Arwen in the books Arwen appears in two chapters of ‘The Return of the King’: on the last page of 6.05. The Steward and the King she arrives in Minas Tirith to marry Aragorn; and in 6.06. Many Partings she talks to Frodo and gives him her…

5.02.*b. Arwen’s Vision / The Re-forging of Narsil
The Last Journey of Arwen Undómiel Arwen’s sequence in ‘The Return of the King’ kicks off with her going to the Grey Havens. She doesn’t seem particularly happy about it, either. This would only be natural as, in the books, Arwen never considers going to the Grey Havens and leaving Middle-earth. Her leaving is, according…

6.05. The Steward and the King
How it happens in the movie: In the movie the relationship between Faramir and Eowyn develops extremely rapidly, in fact in the theatrical edition there very little relationship growth at all. In the Extended Edition however we see Eowyn rise from her bed after receiving healing from Aragorn, it is here that she and Faramir…

5.06. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields
Alan Lee – The Battle of the Pelennor Fields (detail) Rohan comes at last! Just as Gondor seems to fall Tolkien and Jackson both agree that the Rohirrim arrived on the Pelennor Fields. In the movie, they just show up on Mordor’s flank, however in the book, wild man Ghan-Buri-Ghan, has shown them a secret…
