Elrond

From what U have gathered from the books and the movies, I feel that Elrond in the movies is much colder, and much more bitter. In the books Elrond seems to be more caring. Also in the books he seems more willing to let his daughter go if Aragorn becomes king. I feel that Elrond in the movies could have been portrayed much differenty, more knowlegdable more omnipotent and more caring.

  1. I agree. I rather disliked the movie Elrond for his hostility torwards man.
Apparently PJ has forgotten that his borther and his foster son was mortal and that mortal blood was running in his venes as well.

  2. I felt Elrond’s coldness towards men fitted in with both versions of the story – after all, he’d seen the Last Alliance come to nothing because of a mortal. His brother’s death could have been seen by the young Elrond as a betrayal, and despite his intervention, he is losing his daughter to mortality. It is possible that after so many reminders of mankind’s weakness, he began to hate what was human in himself and to take that out on the humans around him.
