The New York Daily News report that Time Warner appear to have the lead over Sony in the bid for MGM. Time Warner own New Line Cinema and MGM controls the TV and movie rights to The Hobbit.

Time Warner, MGM and The Hobbit
Comingsoon.net report that it looks increasingly likely that Time Warner will, “swoop in and purchase MGM”. As MGM holds the worldwide rights to The Hobbit, this would make it possible for New Line Cinema, which is owned by Time Warner, to pursue filming The Hobbit.

St John’s College buys The Eagle and Child
