Independent.co.uk report on the results of a BBC poll on British history. According to the poll, 1 in 20 thought that Gandalf led the British to victory over the Spanish Armada and some people clearly thought that the battle of Helm’s Deep was a real event!

Stuff report that a letter written 46 years ago by JRR Tolkien to Miss Grant in New Zealand has been sold at auction in Wellington for nearly $7000. In his letter Tolkien wrote that, “he thought The Lord of the Rings was too expensive a book to attract a host of buyers”.
