Lawrence Makoare, was born in Bastion Point, New Zealand on March 20th 1968, is 37 years old today. Lawrence played the Uruk-hai leader Lurtz in FotR and in RotK he played the Witch-king of Angmar and Gothmog. You can read his cast bio here. Many happy returns Lawrence!

Author and map-maker Karen Wynn Fonstad died on the 11th March 2005. While best known to us as the author and map-maker for “The Atlas of Middle-earth”, Karen was also a freelance map-maker and a part-time lecturer at the University of Wisconsin. On 27th February Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger of Weta Workshop gave a presentation at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia. Today, Sunday 6th March 2005, is CoE’s third anniversary. Happy anniversary CoE!

The Lord of the Rings E-Post section of Ian McKellen’s official site has been updated. The questions he answers include whether he suffered from “separation anxiety after wrapping the films” and he talks a little about a scene between Gandalf and Legolas that was cut from The Fellowship of the Ring.

Eonline.com report that Peter Jackson’s production company, Wingnut Films, has filed a lawsuit against New Line Cinema, the distributors of the LotR movies. The claim relates to profits from The Fellowship of the Ring.
