The town of Vacaville, CA is turning over their downtown to a Middle-earth festival. This is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the of Houghton Mifflin’s publication of “The Fellowship of the Ring”. The event will run from 2nd-7th April and will include activities such as chain mail making and a trivia event.…

The bfi London IMAX cinema (which has the UK’s largest cinema screen) is screening the LotR trilogy, in the original theatrical 35mm versions, on 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th November. Tickets for The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy – The Exhibition, at The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, Australia, are now available for pre-order at ticketmaster. The exhibition opens on December 26th and closes on March 31st (these dates are subject to change).

Sean Astin’s official website has the dates for his forthcoming book tour this October. He will be signing copies of his recently published book, There and Back Again: An Actor’s Tale. The dates include 10am on 16th October at the Boston Museum of Science.

On 22nd September Michael Drout, Associate Professor of English at Wheaton College, will present a programme entitled, “Understanding J R R Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings”. The event will take place at 7pm at Mansfield public library, US. There are further details here.

The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy – The Exhibition is coming to the Indiana State Museum. The exhibition will open on 6th October and run until 31st December 2005. On 21st October, an exhibition entitled, “The Invented Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien, Drawings and Original Manuscripts from the Marquette University Collection” will open at The Haggerty Museum of Art, Milwaukee. Entrance to the exhibition is free. Tickets are on sale now for the Return of the Convention in Bristol, UK. This event opens on Tolkien Reading Day, March 25th, with a gala dinner and runs through the Easter weekend until the 28th.
