Tolkien – the UK’s most borrowed classic author in 2004
The Public Lending Right organisation have published their top ten lists of the most borrowed authors and titles in the UK in 2004. First edition of The Hobbit sells for £6000
In 1937 only 1500 first editions of The Hobbit were published. EDP24 report that one of these first editions, complete with dustwrapper designed by Tolkien, was sold at auction today for £6000 ($11,359.23).
