According to Reuters, the people in New Zealand are already celebrating RotK’s Oscar nominations before the winners are announced tonight; they are also celebrating other Kiwi films, ‘The Last Samurai’ and ‘Whale Rider’ which together gained five nominations.

The Oscars winners will be announced tonight, and at Suntimes some of the nominees, including Peter Jackson, give their thoughts about the forthcoming awards.

According to Scotsman.com there will be few surprises at the Academy Awards finale as, “…the big categories of Best Film and Best Director are less a competition and more a coronation this year, with Peter Jackson already pre-anointed as this year’s big winner”.

According to this article at Reuters, the talk in Hollywood has moved away from whether Return to the King will win the Oscar for Best Picture to if it will sweep the board and win all 11 Oscars it has been nominated for.

Barrie Osborne (producer of RotK) gives his views about the Oscars in this article at The New Zealand Herald. One of his comments is, “Awards are awards and they’re nice, but I think our film is certainly an incredible accomplishment and will last for a long long time.”

Had enough of predictions for this year’s Oscars? Well if not, there’s more of them at The Toronto Star, where Peter Howell predicts that RotK will win awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Original Score and a number of other technical awards such as Best Visual Effects and Makeup.

According to a recent poll at ABC News, RotK is favourite to win the Best Picture Award at this year’s Oscars, gaining 42% of the vote. The next highest film in the poll was Seabiscuit, with 16%.

Only two days to go until the big night, Kurt Loder at MTV makes his predictions on who will win the major awards at this year’s Academy Awards. He has RotK down for Best Picture, and Peter Jackson for Best Director.
