  • The Battle for Middle-earth – latest updates from EA

    Last week ithillinde from CoE attended EA’s The Battle for Middle-earth Community Day, you can read EA’s report of the event here. There’s also a new video, Inside the Battle Volume 3: Middle-earth A.I, in which “Mark Skaggs and Dustin Browder talk about the game A.I. and its effectiveness on the game environment.”

  • Sir Ian McKellen – latest site update

    The latest update to Sir Ian’s offical site is to the e-post section where he answers a number of questions. These include who he thinks would win in a fight between Gandalf and Magneto!

  • Decipher LotR trading card game

    The latest update at Decipher.com is an article entitled, “An Uruk-hai by any other name”. You can see Mount Doom card previews here; the latest cards include the Easterling Berserker.

  • Fell Beasts on the move

    Stuff report that the Fell Beasts that once perched on top of cinemas in Wellington, have been moved from their temporary home in a landfill site to an undisclosed indoor location. According to Weta production manager, Jamie Wilson, “they might be used again sometime in the future’

  • Hobbit Hill for sale

    The Wrekin, a 1,300ft hill in Shropshire, UK, is up for sale for around £500,000. The hill is said to have been used by Tolkien as the basis for Middle-earth. There’s further information at telegraph.co.uk.

  • LotR symphony review

    At The Australian there’s a critical review of the Sydney Opera House performance of the LotR symphony. The reviewer states, “what works so well on screen is much less successful in the concert hall”.

  • Landscapes of Middle-earth stamps

    On 7th July, the New Zealand Post is releasing a set of eight stamps to commemorate the landscapes of Middle-earth. The stamps feature some of the locations in New Zealand that were used in the filming of the LotR movies and include Skippers Canyon, the setting for the Ford of Bruinen scene in FotR. You…

    A 75 minute programme on a year in Sir Ian McKellen’s life will be shown on Sunday 27th June, on The South Bank Show.   • Tolkien language conference

    The First International Conference on Tolkien’s language will be held on 4th-8th August 2005 at the University of Stockholm. The conference proceedings will be published in a new publication, Arda Philology. There are further details here.
