Tolkien lecture
On Tuesday 26th September, at Marquette University, Tolkien scholar Eduardo Segura will speak on the topic of; “Tolkien, Lewis and Hollywood: What Images Cannot Say”. The lecture is open to member of the public but you must pre-register if you want to attend. There’s further information about the event here.

Lord of the Rings – stage version
Over 450,000 people have seen the stage version of The Lord of the Rings which ends its Toronto run on 3rd September. The show will re-open in London in May 2007. You can read the full story here.

Happy Anniversary to the CoE Realms

The Lancashire Tolkien trail
On Thursday 10th August, one of the features on UK TV programme Go North West is the Lancashire Tolkien Trail. This programme will air at 7.30pm on ITV Granada, UK.

Limited edition LotR DVDs
Flickdirect has further details about the limited edition LotR DVDs which will be available from 29th August. Each set contains both the theatrical and extended editions of the movies and together the 3 DVD sets will contain over five hours of new footage.

New LotR game from EA
Electronic Arts has announced that the title of their next LotR game is, The Lord of the Rings: The White Council. Due for release in late 2007 the game will feature the voices of Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Christopher Lee and Cate Blanchett. There’s further information about the game here.

Tolkien and the Somme
July 1st marked the 90th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme. JRR Tolkien was one of the survivors of the battle and in her article at bbc.co.uk Lisa Jardine discusses some of Tolkien’s experiences and their influences on his work.
