During my seventh viewing of TTT, I made sure to pay close attention to the gash/scar on Merry’s forehead, since everyone was convinced it kept changing sides.
It doesn’t. Not really.
It seems to me like the audience was judging the position of the scar based on their right and left viewpoints, rather than Merry’s. If you see the scar at any point on the left side of the movie screen, it’s placed properly above Merry’s right eyebrow.
It’s possible that I may have missed one switching, but I did make sure to pay extra close attention and I didn’t see any misplacement whatsoever.
All that list does is illustrate what a challenge this movie was to produce, and to show how much detai is truly involved. And the only award it should affect is Editing and possibly Directing.
What about Costumes, Score and Adapted Screenplay?
I didn’t notice any mistakes when I was watching the film, lol, I guess I don’t notice things to easily. But still, it was a great movie, i’m sure other movies have it’s mistakes too. It’s hard to make something perfect and for TTT, even though those mistakes were there, it was very close to being perfect – in my opinion.
I am sure those who voted on nominations didn’t see TTT any of the number of times those who found the errors did. I think they are still in shock/awe of PJ’s ability to film 3 movies at once!!
I think people might be forgetting the extra/extended scenes we’ll see in the extended edition, so some things may be cleared up then. (such as the ring’s chain being caught up on Frodo’s shirt and things. There’ll probably be shots in-between)
I didn’t notice a lot of these. XD; Some I did, some I didn’t.
For me the most worrying mistake is that comment about orcs taking the eastern shore at Osgiliath. Eastern shore??? How did the Ithilien soldiers get there then? And well, that digital Legolas in front of Hornburg escaping the general attention of the film-makers probably…
But anyway, it is a great movie and I cannot wait for the big final! And perhaps they will delete that digital Legolas for the DVD edition… 🙂 People looking so much for mistakes should try to produce some larger project themselves, imho.
No one is perfect, so mistakes happen. Most of the mistakes in TTT are so small that really, unless you’re paying attention to ONLY the small stuff, you wouldn’t notice them. The only thing that really urked me was the whole Legolas getting on the horse in some terribly impossible way. That much I couldn’t buy. 😉 As for all the other mistakes, these critics should give these film makers, make up artists, etc some credit. They did a phenomenal job on a movie that most people would be too intimidated to even consider.
I just wanted to comment that if you read through the list of 145 mistakes you will find quite a few repeated several times, so though they claim there are 145 mistakes its not really that many. Also for a movie with such a grand scale as The Two Towers thats not really that bad seeing as how most of the mistakes you don’t pick up on unless you are looking for them.
Maybe I’m just easily satisfied, but mistakes like that in movies have never bothered me. In fact, it’s a whole lot of fun to save lists like that one and keep an eye for them the next time I watch. It gives the movie even more re-watching value than it already has. ^_^ Besides, nobody is perfect, especially with a movie like Lord of the Rings that’s just so vast in every aspect. You can expect them to make mistakes. It’s called being human.

Wow! I didn’t know there were THAT many mistakes in the moive! Even though it may have had lots of mistakes, it was still the best movie:)!
Most of them are VERY little though. Some of them, were easy to notice, but some of them were hard to find.
