Apparently J.R.R. Tolkien didn’t think so and nixed the idea.
In an earlier article both also reported on the alleged family feud the new films have inspired between Christopher Tolkine (son of J.R.R.) and Simon Tolkien (grandson). Apparently although Simon was enthusiatic about the film and wanted the family to be involved Christopher was not of the same mind.
