I believe that the film does not make it clear that Aragorn’s intentions were always to go to Minas Tirith with Boromir, though of course this changes with the fall of Gandalf in Moria.

I agree that this should have been made clear, because now Boromir seems to be a traitor – while in the book he felt a little betrayed by Aragorn, which explains his attitude better.
