How did you discover CoE?
Actually, I found CoE almost by ‘accident’. After FotR, I got ‘hooked’ on JRRT’s Elvish languages, and was browsing through the ‘links’ on the Yahoo Group ‘Elfling’ (no clue now as to how I even found that!). I saw the one for CouncilofElrond.com, and thought, ‘Oh what the heck – I might as well check it out’.
Needless to say, that was ‘it’ for me! I registered within moments, and CoE has been a part of my life ever since!
As the Accounts Admin, what are your duties here at CoE?
Basically, what I do is help with users who are having password/login problems, changing usernames if it’s appropriate and/or necessary, contacting users whose Signature files aren’t within the Site rules, and researching suspected double (or multiple) accounts. And, like the other Staff, while I keep an eye out for inappropriate-type posts, usually I will just contact the Admin person over that section.
Any funny happenings related to your job at CoE?
Well, lol, since I kind of keep an eye on the new registrants, and am looking at the Members List quite a bit, I often am amused by the cleverness of the usernames people have picked.
What was the craziest name change request you’ve ever received?
Hmmm, lol, well, I wish I’d known this question was coming…I’d have paid more attention! I suppose one who complained that they didn’t like all the “underscores” they put in their original name (‘too hard to type’), or another just because they wanted the ‘same’ name they had on other sites. So far, actually, I’ve not had any really weird ones. But, one can ‘hope’, can’t one?
Which aspect of the job appeals the most to you?
I think mostly the opportunity to help users. I know how I feel if I can’t get to CoE (for whatever reason: technical, vacations, etc.), and I’m eager to do what I can to solve problems. I also like the opportunity it’s given me to have more interaction with the wonderful Members and Staff on CoE.
I’ve been doing this since October, I think, and I’m really enjoying it!
What are your favourite areas of the site?
Ai, lol, an ‘easy’ one! The Realm of Varda Elentári and the Elvish101 forum. I also love the RPGs, but I’m not ‘actively’ involved in any at the moment.
How often do you visit CoE?
Since I’m ‘required’ to have the Internet at work, it allows me to keep a window open for CoE all day! Heehee! Also, I’m on several hours at night – so I’m on quite a bit!
How did you become the Head of Varda?
When the previous Realm Head decided to step down, she asked if I was interested, and I said YES!! I was already a Realm Leader, and had just been elected for my 2nd term (which would have been my last in that position), so I already had some experience under my belt – which I hope has been a help. Lol – and thinking of this question, I just passed the 1-year mark as Realm Head.
What is your favourite part about being the Realm Head of Varda?
Ooooo – a toughie! I think it’s mostly all the wonderful people here in Varda – reading the poems/descriptions – the different ideas people have and trying to get them worked into Realm activities; their insights into songs, art, books; their observations about the stars, planets, and unusual facets of our Universe; the different storylines folks have come up with for the RPG etc. We have a myriad of bright, clever people, and everyone’s willing to share their talents – whatever they are!
I also like that we’re a ‘community’ here – everyone is polite, and quick to post an encouraging or positive word or share a joke.
