I am glad to see people taking up on archery. What I find amusing is that I was into the sport before LOTR. I had heard of it going to be played in theaters soon but I never knew what it was about back then. My little brother had just gotten into archery and had persuaded my friend and I to take up the sport as well. Surprisenly it was a sport I could get into as I wasn’t a very athletic person. When LOTR came into theaters I was dragged (yes dragged for I didn’t really want to see it then. I was stuck on Harry Potter at that point.) Thats when I feel in love with the movies and books. The movies kept me inspired to work on archery even more.
Now I need to find an archery place down where I attend school and hopefully a bow to use.
Same here… Actually very much same here. I started getting into archery, i dunno, 6 years ago? and am looking for some place to go where my college is. though i gotta say, a lot of people now think Im a heck a lot cooler because of it! legolas as my patron saint of archery aint that bad of a thought… 🙂
Just like me! I started taking archery after I fell in love with Lord of the Rings. It’s so fun!! I’m doing pretty much everything I can to be THAT awesome. I want to try to start fencing now. But I don’t think that theres any orcs that they can send running after me. Darn . . .
Well, my daughter and I are taking it up this year! We found a local park with an archery range so we got bows for Christmas. Now all we need is some warmer weather.
I really like the “Legolas as the patron Saint of Archery” idea.
I took up archery before LOTR too. I did it for fun because I always thought it would be something cool to do. I also took up fencing. Though I am not good at either it’s still a lot of fun. For those of you looking for ranges… maybe the sudden burst of fans of the sport will inspire people to open more of them.
Anyway, when LOTR came out I suddenly found myself being teased about trying to be like Legolas. I thought it was funny.
My friend and I went to a Harvest party this fall dressed as elves… and I can promise you that all my archery equipment came with me! I mean after all… why not?
Thanks to Legolas and his elven kin, several young people at my church are interested in it, and I even have one boy who wants me to teach him… trouble is I don’t have all the buggs worked out myself. I would love to know how to shoot two arrows like Legolas though.. totally awesome!!!
Wow, I guess a lot of people ARE into archery. Actually, ever since I saw LotR I have wanted to try it. Unfortunately I live in a small town there is no places giving lessons or archery shops! If I want to learn I have to find some one and that will prove to be a hard feat!
Sadly…I am one of those “archers” inspired by Lord of the Rings. After much complaining to the local sports center they finally started offering lessons…now half of my school is into it. I wasn’t necessarily inspired by Legolas alone though…just the thought of it was what did it for me. I wouldn’t blame people who are inspired by Orlando’s genius acting skills though……:::smirk::: if you…know what I mean.

Ha ha, that’s funny. I’ve been doing archery long before I saw LOTR, but I can see why people would want to do it more. It’s so fun!
