Have you ever dreamed that one of your Tolkien fanfics would become a movie? For Tolkien fan Sam. R. Balcomb, this dream became a reality. Developed by Elemental Films and Light Pirate Pictures, the movie “Ancanar” is an original story written by director/writer Sam. R. Balcomb and is based upon the world of Middle-earth created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Filming began in late 2000 and is currently in post production. Although it won’t have the budget that Peter Jackson’s films had, it is sure to please Tolkien fans everywhere.

  1. no offense to anyone, but I personally don’t think this movie looks that great. the people don’t look anything like Middle-Earth beings. and I think it would be soooo hard to write anything about M-E you hope to get made into a movie because Tolkien’s work was so wonderful. I’ve written fanfics before, and I thought they were stupid compared to Tolkien. sorry if I offeneded anyone, I’m not saying I don’t like fanfic because I do, but I’m just skeptical about this movie.

  2. AH!!!! sorry, that was my first reaction when i saw the girl (elf?) not to offend anyone, but it looks more like middle-earth “Xena” or “Hercules” style than middle earth…middle earth style…thats my opinion

  3. hmmmmmm…. I’m not sure what I think abotu this. The website is very impressive and makes me want to find out more about it…. but….. I just don’t know. I would love to see the trailer.

  4. The only thing remotely Tolkien related that I can see is the concept of Elves, which has been butchered. Looks like Waterworld meets ALIAS to me. Bleh!

  5. It doesn’t really look to me like Tolkien fanfic. Although one of the elves did sound a bit like Legolas what with the gulls and sea. but still, it shouldn’t be called a fanfic.

  6. I AM NOT happy about this! He will never be like Tolkien, and by filming this, in HIS creation, Middle Earth, it is disrespectful and terrible! I will not be glad to see it!

  7. I don’t think that they should be able to do that! That’s like dissing Tolkien’s work and they are probley only allowed to do that cuz he’s dead and can’t do anything against it!! I am so not going to see it!

  8. Ok it’s things like this that make me mad. Like others said…. it’s Tolkien’s work not his!!! He shouldn’t be allowed to do that. Why can’t they just let a good thing be? I won’t be seeing it, thank you very much.
