  1. I think the news articles on this are over-stating things a bit
During an interview he said that he doesn’t want the studios to think he’s just waiting around for them to sort things out, and that he’d enjoy doing another play

  2. NOOO! No no NO! Ian can’t quite now! So many fans are looking forward to this film, and if he jumps ship, that would just ruin it for good. ='(

  3. It’s true, he’s the best as Gandalf, but he can’t keep on rejecting offers from other productions just because a few greedy people can’t decide what to do with MGM … I agree with Sir Ian!

  4. awww…i certainly hope he doesn’t quit. although…i can hardly blame him for any frustration with delays. i think we all are getting a littley angsty about how long they’re taking….

  5. I really don’t see the point of making The Hobbit if McKellen quits… I mean, who’s going to play Gandalf? To me, and probably to anyone who got introduced to TLoTR by the first movie, McKellen IS Gandalf. I’m sure I’ll see the movie even if someone else plays the character, but I’m also sure I’ll keep annoying everyone saying “that ISN’T Gandalf”…

  6. If Ian McKellan does back out, THE HOBBIT is as good as dead. The studios are trying to kill the project. They know that the movie interest for “fantasy films” is waning and do not want to take a chance on making a flop.

The last Harry Potter film did not fair so well at the box office and it has studio execs re-thinking “The Hobbit” project.

Too much time has passed since “LotR”. “LotR” is now considered yesterday’s news by Hollywood…as is anything associated with it.
