Over the past few months, I, as your friendly Accounts Admin, have been noticing a large number of new registrants not receiving their passwords, and/or members seeking lost passwords and not getting them.
There are a number of possible reasons for this to be happening
First, and foremost, for anyone (old OR new) on CouncilofElrond.com, please make sure that both the ‘admin@councilofelrond.com’ and ‘accounts@councilofelrond.com’ email addresses have been added to your ‘contacts’ or ‘safe’ lists, or whatever your email provider designates to allow you to receive accepted emails.
Secondly, please make sure your email address is typed correctly. Since I can only reply to the email address used to register an account, I may not be able to find your account and help you otherwise.
Thirdly, use a VALID email address when registering. There is a place in your CoE Profile to put a ‘fake’ email address, but registration requires a REAL one. For your own security and/or peace of mind, your real address will NOT be displayed to the general Membership – unless you (as a member) specifically ‘flag’ that it can be.
Another problem I run into often, is that members change their email addresses over the course of time. If you do, PLEASE ensure that your new email address is updated in your Profile at the first available opportunity. Otherwise, if someone keeps a ‘defunct’ email address, I have no way to contact you in response to a lost password request.
And, lastly, many members have availed themselves of creating a CoE email address (“something” @ councilofelrond.net).
NEVER put this email address in your CoE Profile as your ‘official’ email address. To access this email account, you must first log in to CoE. If you lose your password, the new one will be sent to that account – and will be completely inaccessible to you, since you can’t get logged in until you have it – a nasty little ‘Catch 22’ situation that can be very frustrating for everyone involved.
To ensure you have your most updated email address listed in your CoE Profile, click on “My Account” at the top of any page within CoE, and then click on “Change User Information”.
