Book Club Reads ‘Unfinished Tales’

Rate this post

‘Unfinished Tales’ is the follow-up to 1977’s ‘The Silmarillion’. Like it’s predecessor it was assembled and edited by Christopher Tolkien, JRR’s son. However, ‘Unfinished Tales’ is not as much a novel, like ‘The Silmarillion’, but a research book that presents alternative versions of stories, background essays and notes on the discrepancies between the published works and the (previously) unpublished ones. It’s a great book for anyone who wants to delve a little deeper into the wonderful world of Middle-earth.

As always, the Book Club will try to provide a place for you to discuss your impressions, thoughts, questions… on the various chapters. Every two or three weeks (depending on the size of the chapter and the depth of the discussions) we will start on a new chapter, and work our way through the book. New chapters will be announced through the Book Club Assignments thread.
We’ll also include useful/helpful links under Tips & Tools.

Want to join? Just dig out your copy of ‘Unfinished Tales’ (or run to the library / book store to get one) and start reading!
