Have you ever wanted to learn more about the man who invented Middle-earth?
Well, lucky for you, CoE has a wonderful Tolkien section. It has an incredibly detailed biography of his life that includes: his childhood, his schooldays, his time at Oxford, his heroic period in World War I, the influences in his life, his careers as a professor and a writer, and his family life.

To see the numerous works published by Tolkien you can check out his Bibliography. This includes a plethora of writings relating to Tolkien published from 1911-2003. From poetry, to literature, to academic works, this complete list will provide you with enough titles to keep you reading for a lifetime.

There are some insightful articles written by our own CoE members about Tolkien and his works. This includes an enlightening article comparing Tolkien’s languages to Finnish as well as his mythology to the Finnish epic, the Kalevala. Other articles depict contrasts between Middle-earth mythology and the Edda, and Tolkien, “World War I” and the Lord of the Rings. If you are interested in Tolkien’s feelings toward the environment and how it is included in his work there is a wonderful article about that as well. Other articles are: “Tolkien, Friendship, and the Four Loves”, and “Tolkien’s Catholic Inspiration for Galadriel”.

Tolkien had many talents including a little-known talent for illustration. If you are interested in seeing Middle-earth as Tolkien himself envisioned it, visit Tolkien’s Art.

On top of all of these great features there are also our popular forums where you can have discussion with others on the site about Tolkien and Middle-earth. Go to the Books Forum for general discussions about his books; the Book Club to read and converse with others on the site; and the Green Dragon Inn to talk about plays, weapons, art, and Tolkien’s life.

The Tolkien section is an integral part of our site as it is about the man who inspired it all. It’s great wealth of information is a great way to learn more about him and his works which we love so much.
