How did you find CoE?
I stumbled across it several times looking for pics from the movie, especially between the cinematical releases of TTT and RotK, but it wasn’t until I got interested in the Elven languages that I really found the site, following the link from another site that mentioned the wonderful Elvish courses found here…and after that it was love at first sight.
What are your duties here at CoE?
Duties!?! I consider them privileges! Anyway, I am trying to keep evil order in the realm of Vairë which I am heading and I guess I could also be said to be the unofficial QotW finder of the BF. Or maybe that’s just because I want to come off as doing more important stuff here than I actually do…other than that, I guess it is my duty to write good little manipulative posts and be helpful etc as are all members – and, not to forget, to corrupt as many people to my evil cause – hehehe, CoE’s evil cause, of course!
What are your favourite areas of the site?
Errr, yes…Needless to say I adore the Gallery, and also the wonderful Library of Elrond, because…well…who couldn’t; the Language section is also fantastic, as is the BvM section. I guess though that the places I spend most time in are my preciousss Weavers forum and the Book forum, which are both amazing, I also occasionally sneak into the Book Club, but so far, I’m sorry to admit, I’ve been mostly lurking in the corners and observing…Same goes for the Movies and GDI.
How often do you visit CoE?
Depends, really, most on my own willpower, but as I am as spineless as an earthworm, it most often comes to very many hours each day…I actually nearly wish I could say it was only one or two hours each day, but it is very seldom as little as that. Very often I am online long into the night…I fear I’ve developed an addiction to this site a very long time ago – I am happy that I have at least become addicted to quality.
How many times have you read the books?
The LotR…some seven or eight times I guess, at least cover to cover, but then there’s the little chapters or pages that have been read over and over again…However I am still not satisfied with this frequency, afterall so many have read the books much more often – same goes for Tolkien’s other books, and therefore I shall look very much forward to the day when I am too old to go to school or work, then I will sit all day in a hammock and read books by Tolkien. I think at the moment I am reading his main books, LotR, the Hobbit and the Sil, twice annually, more or less, but that is also because I need to read for the years when I didn’t read the books…
Who is your favourite LOTR character?
Errr…Would it be very cliché to say Denethor, Gríma and Saruman? Or at least those are the characters I find the most fascinating…for quite a few reasons I won’t bother you with rambling about…I have also always had a weak spot for Gladys as well – but that is also because of her past and such…Boromir, Faramir and Théoden are also very dear to my heart, as is Gollum and Éowyn…And yes, eeek, suddenly there is not one but 9 characters listed…I’m no good at just mentioning one…I guess I just like characters with a twist, someone you can be fascinated by…Oddly enough there are very few Elves among my favourites…
Do you have a favourite scene from the trilogy?
I have…I think…I’m not sure…The one that always jumps to my mind is when Frodo is at Mount Doom and says he cannot remember anything of the Shire, I love it most for what he says though – and for the apparent hopelessness of the situation…The beacon scene is beautiful, and well, somehow, I like the merry atmosphere when Merry and Pippin sit at the ruins of Isengard talking silly talk. Boromir talking of the Ring at Caradhras is also wonderfull…And when Faramir rides to a very likely death and the bows meet him…And actually, and I believe this is actually my very favourite of them all: Gollum talking to himself in the end of TTT, and then the camera rises up through the forest and we see Orodruin and Mordor looming – with fires and lava…Nothing beats that scene…
What character left out of the films do you miss most?
I know it’s not one character, but the Grey Company…and Bill Ferny. of course…and Imrahil. I’d also love to see more Hobbits at the Prancing Pony…it was all very gloomy and dreary there…but if there had been Hobbits we’d have got to hear all the wonderful stories for the book Mr. Underhill was apparently intending to write.
Do you know any Sindarin or Quenya?
Yes…or at least I am pretending to study Quenya, but I am a lousy student…Have read through Fauskanger’s course quite a few times, it’s very enjoyable and terribly funny at times. The realisation of this came to me in its fullest when he said he was postulating yet another hand…Had me laughing for ages, winning me quite a few queer looks from my family.
What did you enjoy most about the ROTK EE?
All scenes with Denethor, definitely!!!!! If still not completely nice in its portray of him, at least it did show somewhat of a human side, I was really, really happy about this!!!! Houses of Healing as well, though the scene was too brief to have me really cheering… (still there was Faramir). And though I was happy about seeing Sharkey again, I wasn’t altogether as happy with that scene as I could’ve been, so I guess all this made me even happier about the increase of Denethor-scenes.
