Have you ever wanted to be part of something between CoE members? Have you ever wanted to have a member of LotR come visit you? Well, if the answer is yes, then this is for you! Yes, that’s right, I’m talking about Elrond’s Adventure. Right now on CoE there is an activity going on where we are mailing an Elrond doll around from member to member. The idea is to pass him to as many members as we can. While he visits each member, they take him to significant or interesting places in their home area and take many pictures of him at these places. Once they are done they pass him onto the next person via mail.
This adventure started with Rivka in California. She lovingly let us pass her action figure around the continent. Right now it is being limited to Canada and America, so that people don’t have to spend tons of money shipping him across the sea and back. The hope is that once he makes it through the list here, he will be sent across the sea to other places to continue his journey. So far he has managed to make it across a lot of America, even though he has only made a few stops.
So, here’s how it works! In the Many Meetings forum there are three threads on this topic. One is a sign up thread, where you can put your name on the waiting list to host Elrond. Once someone is done with Elrond they PM the next person on the list to get their mailing address so they can send him on his merry way. This way not everyone on the site sees your address. The rules for passing him on are all in the thread so everyone knows what is expected of them. CarolP has been assigned his Travel Agent, and she is great at always knowing where he is if anyone needs to find out. She also keeps the sign-up list up to date for us. Thanks CarolP!
The second is for any questions, comments, or concerns. We use this thread to keep updated on where he is, or how his visits are going in between reports. We also comment on the reports that have been posted. Any suggestions that we have on this activity are also made here. So far we have decided to send a blanket around with him that each member can sign. Another really cool idea that has come out of this is a map that was created to show where he has travelled! NenyaGold has made this map for us, which has been a big help! It’s pretty cool to be able to see his travels from place to place.
The last thread is for the reports. The idea for this is that once you have had Elrond come visit, you write up a report on what he did while he was with you then post it with bunches of pictures to share with everyone. So far they have been very humorous to read! Seeing all the pictures is great! This gives us a chance to see the cool places we live and see Elrond in many different adventures. If you check out this thread you can hear of all the situations Elrond has found himself in during his travels, and see tons of fun pictures to go along with the stories!
As of late this activity seems to be slowing down…but maybe with some renewed interest we can get this project moving again! I think it’s an excellent idea and very fun to participate in! I am waiting anxiously for him to come visit me. I am about half way down the list, but I know one day I will be able to take him to all the fun places around here and take tons of amusing pictures!
