I still can’t believe it, but I was there! It was every bit as wonderful as the review says, and more so. Sissel was far better than the soundtrack soloists, and “Into the West” brought tears to my eyes, and sent me to another world. I only hope that sometime a recording of her singing the LOTR songs will be available. “Here are beauties which pierce like swords and burn like cold iron…”
I wanted to go SO bad! This preformance was the one closest to my home (still a four-hour drive!) But mom wouldn’t let me sign up to the site- the only way we could purchase tickets! Online anyway… we never “got around” to calling in to try thataway.
I wanted to go so bad it hurt. At least Mom took me to the Highland Games instead… Cool, but not as cool as a Howard Shore concert. I envy all of you that went! Lord of the Rings has the coolest music ever!
I was present at the Saturday matinee performance in Seattle. Shore has a fiercely energetic conducting style which is exciting in itself. Sissel was fabulous. One of the soloists did have a strained voice, but the Symphony had done Carmina Burana the weekend before. I sing and know what toll too heavy a schedule can take on the voice. Even so it was truly awesome, very much worth having flown 3000+ miles specifically to attend (I missed the Atlanta performance). I look forward to the proposed release of more of the music via a multidisc set.
