Well, for one thing, there’s the confusion factor. That’s really fun, confusing people. It’s one of my favorite pastimes. But, there’s also the fact that you can have private conversations with people without having someone listen in. That is, unless they know Sindarin. In that case, “lay some pieces of paper on the floor and shoot everybody” (Eric Idle, ‘Veronica Smalls’ Party Tips’, on Monty Python’s Flying Circus). But all jesting aside….. learning a language that other people don’t know makes you look like less of a geek than you really are! Always a good idea. Well, maybe not.
Making fun of people! Whenever there’s someone you REALLY don’t like… you can just tell them, “Auta miqula orqu!” which means “Go kiss an Orc!!” And because the looks on people’s faces you get when they listen to you ^-^
well besides the obvious niceties of insulting a confused older brother….i have been studying Sindarin just because i absolutely love the world Tolkien has created, especially the elves. And I think by attempting to learn the language i am just trying to make myself more a part of his world.
All the things that have been said and more. They’re a beauty in and of themselves, and are the true inspiration for Middle Earth. They’re where it all began, so to speak, and I like learning where things come from.
I also like the looks on the faces when I say something no one understands.
Though I’ve been told that it makes me look more the geek for learning them, but I think they’re just jealous. 🙂

Whee; Quenya, Sindarin, Esperanto (although I think I like Ido better) — so much interest, I’m kinda hoping it becomes a mainstream thing. 🙂
