  1. Who’s freaked out? *raises hand*

Ok, there’s a LOT of things you can’t do onstage with LOTR. Fell beats, trolls, the Eye itself, to name a few. I can see why they would want to make it a musical (so many songs!) but still…its pretty impossible.

  2. Eeep! I have to say I’m more than a little scared… but, who knows? Maybe It’ll work out… maybe. I just REALLY hope they don’t mess another one up. Bakshi is coming to mind… ack!

  3. Wow. They’re going to hve quite a few problems, though — when it comes to battles, how are these people going to show the scale of the battle? I mean, you can only have a certain number of people on stage at one time, and a stage is only so big. They could depict this with scenery, I’m sure, but it wouldn’t be quite the same. Doing something like this is going to cost quite a large sum of money, too, but I’m glad someone is dedicated enough to attempt such a colossal task.

  4. This has me on the fence between killing myself laughing, and being very, very afraid. What are they going to sing about? I mean, it’s hard to put stuff like that into words and not make it tacky (cough*South Pacific*cough), and I have these horrible visions of dancing elves and Wraiths.

Think happy thoughts. Think happy thoughts!

  5. I think i’ll feel *extremely* wierd and uncomfortable if all of a sudden Theoden bursts into song during the battle of the Pelennor Fields. Or if-

Frodo in mount Doom – “Iii’m going to throw the ring into the fiiiiiire………”
    Gollum- “No you’re not!”
    Frodo- “Yes i am!”
Gollum- “Not without your finger! *gagh!*”

    Won’t work!!!!

  6. Uh… I must confess; although am a tad weirded out by the prospect of a musical tLotR… I’m also kinda (ok, REALLY) excited!
But surely… They’re prepared to spend £8 mill on it so they must have summat good planned… right?
Anyhoo… I’ll be there; sometime during it’s showing I’ll be there. You coming Poppy?

  7. well maybe they’ll take most of the songs from the ones in the book or the ones made for the movie; perhaps use a little howard shore? oh i dunno, i’m still very worried

  8. I don’t know about that; it seems a little bit odd to me… how can you convey the feel of the vastness and history of Middle-earth through a 3 and a half hour long musical? I don’t think it’ll work very well, though I will be VERY interested in hearing what the songs will be about…!

  9. you have got to be kidding me…c’mon, a musical will destroy the artistry of Tolkien…LOTR was never meant to be a singing-dancing spectacle…goodness…

  10. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait… *Imagins Legolas in a tutu nancing across the stage* …. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS sounds hillarious! XD I hope it turns out good. But it’s a little dissappointing that none of Tolkien’s songs will be in it.

Frodo: *singing* THE RING, THE RING, WHAT A TERRIBLE THIIIIIIING!

  11. Are they kidding? That’s got to be the worst idea ever. 3 1/2 hours???? And you thought people were complaining about what Peter Jackson left out of the movies . . .

    >And when in the story should they break into song (and dance, I would guess)? Granted there’s some singing in the movies but it’s not enough to label it a musical?

    >Someone grab these people and give ’em a good shake, would you?
