I must say, I have to agree with him. Who really needs an Oscar when the numbers really speak for themself. I always viewed Oscars to be the plus part for a movie, it doesn’t show which is a good and which is a bad movie. ROTK could win none of the Oscars, but it is still a very good, well liked, high grossing movie, and even if the Oscar people can’t see that , we all know it is one of the greatest movies with the greatest cast and crew.
Wow. Well, I still think that one of the actors (Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Miranda Otto, and Liv Tyler to name a few…) should have been nominated. I think that even though the costumes were beautiful and the special effects were just amazing, the emotional part of Return of the King said it all. It was a very emotional movie and the actors did a wonderful job of showing it.
So sorry, Viggo, I still think one of you guys should’ve been nominated! But hey, if the actor’s happy, so am I. Besides, he’s right: The Oscars don’t matter, just knowing that they did a great job is enough. ^^
Oh, so noble!
Yes, it’s true, we all know the movie rocked and there’s no NEED to get an Oscar to prove it…but it would be nice!
I agree with a lot of what he said, but not the part about the roles having little subtlety (sp?) and depth, or whatever…I disagree with that completely, especially when thinking about Sean Astin’s performance.
But, what can you do?
(P.S. LOVE the pic)
Bravo Viggo!!! The Oscars are a way to reward an artist, actor, director, technician for an outstanding job, but the work doesn’t need to be just about the Oscar. The movies are about the entertaining the public, not pleasing the ciritcs.
The LOTR movies are stupendous, the performances are great, even if the Academy and it’s members don’t get it. Their loss.
I don’t know if the cast ever looks at this site, but you guys are the greatest!!!
Well, I agree that Oscars aren’t necessary, but I find his comment that “they weren’t really the kind of performances, with all due respect, that were about a great deal of detail and subtlety” a little disappointing. I think there was a great deal of subtlety in certain performances, worthy of at least being recognized. Was Johnny Depp’s performance (much as I love it) particularly subtle either? And I always love Ben Kingsley, but was this particular performance of his any greater than Elijah Wood’s? And that Alec Baldwin is up for supporting actor over Sean Astin is a great travesty, IMO.
So very Viggorish!!!!! I wish I could feel as he does, but somehow I think they deserve some sort of recognition for their great perfomance. Am actualy considering to write a letter to the Oscar Academy to mention to them, that it IS possible to create a special award this year -to the best Ensamble, because I definently can’t point out which of them do the best act. And then they’d all be awarded, sighs
Viggo’s very right to say that they don’t need little gold statues to make there performances matter. I think that all the actors and actresses were brilliant. But I think they still should of got a nomination in the best actor and actress catagory. Well at least they were nominated for 11 other awards!! And we all know that they won’t get all the awards but they are guarenteed to get more than 4 at least!! Go our fave film!

Oh, so very Viggo. Exactly what I would have expected him to say, and so true. Who gives a damn about Oscars.
I don’t know…I still think there should have been at least one nom for actors. Viggo, you don’t really persuade me, sorry.
Despite this, I’m really excited about the 11 nominations for the academy awards. GO ROTK!!!

Which actor would you choose, they act all the leading roles.
The Oscar people can think what they want but believe me, I know what I know.
