  1. I understand what he was saying, and I agreed with some of his observations, but not with the conclusions he drew from them. It’s his opinion, and he’s entitled to that, but his opinion is not mine! IMO, he’s demanding more from the movie than is possible to give.

    Poorly acted, my foot!

  2. I can’t believe he said that!!! I’d like to see him make the movie better!!!…poorly acted!!! YEAH RIGHT!!!! who is this guy kidding!!! what do you expect, if Peter Jackson completley followed the book the movies would be like 10 hours long and be horribly confusing!!!!

Also this Wayne Hammond guy says
“The Ents are successful in close-up but not in motion ¯ they, and Gollum, are too evidently computer-generated”

    and then he says……

“The Orcs are hardly terrifying, no more than men in makeup and costume “

so what does he want!! he doesn’t like computer animation, or guys dressed up in costumes. you can’t make characters any other way!! unless he wants Peter Jackson to go and find real orcs and ents!!!

    also he said
“faithful only on a basic level of plot, badly scripted, for the most part poorly acted, “
when I read that evil insult to my favourite LOTR
    I think I smacked my computer monitor……..
poorly acted………poorly acted….how could anyone say that!!! LOL

pheeewww I’m glad I got that out of my system!

  3. I agree to you both. What is that guy thinking? He can’t do it better himself! He clearly doesn’t know anything about making movies. Lord of the rings is the best movie until now in film history!
About the ents and gollum… that’s nonsense. He’s not being realistic, we don’t have any better techniques at the moment. And Gollum is the best computer-generated character ever!
I agree PJ could have stayed closer to the books, but you know… it’s extremely hard to make a 9 hour film of three books, together more than 5000 pages! And Pete’s a perfectionist, so he must have had good reasons for the changes he made.
(See also my topic in the movie discussion forum; ‘Why is everyone complaining about PJ’s movies?’)
Anyway, I think this guy is a total loser! Tolkien lover or not, this is no way to talk about someone’s work. In my opinion PJ did a great job, and especially with the visual effects!
If this man thinks he can do it better, let him try, haha. 🙂 Ridiculous!

(Sorry if I posted this twice)

  4. I agree that LOTR as a book of 3 could not be made into a movie as written. However, I do like the movies so far for what they are, entertainment. I think a great job was done all around by cast and crew…Believe me, it was no day in the park to put together 3 movies like this one all at once…P.J. has my vote for a job well done.

  5. Wow and i thought i was a big tolkien fan…That was his opinion and i will respect it but he shouldn’t be bringing down all the people who worked so hard on this film. Of course it wouldn’t be true to the book because no movie ever is. I also think he should have kept his comments to himself and if he is so disappointed with the movie than i would like to see him make a movie even remotely closer to Peter Jackson’s (without having to have any intermissions).

  6. The bottom line is that Wayne Hammond acknowledges that he is a purist. I believe that it is impossible to satisfy a purist when transitioning a book into film. So be it. It doesn’t make him a loser; it just means that he shouldn’t waste his money on going to the movies.

  7. Good day to you all

I really don’t think what he is is a puritist… he impresses me as a whiner.

I am a screenwriter and I know how heartbreaking translating a book into film can be. I really mean translate film and novel are two very different languages.

Yes you have to dumb it down, even as it is some people I know don’t get it. And his complaints about the effects… sticklbacks… You have to be invested in a film to really enjoy the effects and clearly he wasn’t.

I’ve had my rant for today, now how ’bout an omlet!

    Good Day and be well,

    Tasar Took Nualda

I don’t know I know its his opinion but geez I’d like to see him do better.

  8. Dude! i don’t agree w/ this guy at all! The orcs were scary, and didn’t look like men in make-up! I only agree w/ him on the part about Aragorn falling off the cliff, because it had nothing to do w/ the book.

The movie wasn’t ” overly dependent on special effects”, the parts they needed effects, they used them!

He has the right to think what he wants to think about the movie, but i don’t agree w/ him.
