The Tolkien Society has been proposing the creation of a Tolkien based Center near Birmingham England. It would include a permanent Tolkien Exhibition Center “as a means to inform the public about the life and works of Professor Tolkien” as well as a research library and archive, temporary exhibitions, shop, cafe, garden and meeting rooms.
The proposed location is near Sarhole Mill where Tolkien and his family once lived. The Society already holds yearly outings to Sarhole Mill as well as sponsors Oxonmoot a yearly pilgrimage to Oxford as well as being involved with various seminars and scholarly pursuits surrounding the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Though some interest has been generated in the “Tolkien Park” finances and bureaucratic hemming and hawing are still holding the project back. You can read about the project and how you could possibly help to make this vision a reality or even just to become involved in The Tolkien Society.
